Who is best to represent our legal needs in North Bay Village?

Who is best to represent our legal needs in North Bay Village? Four firms are competing for the distinctive privilege to tackle this task: Bryant Miller Olive, Gray Robinson, Rosen & Switkes, P.L. and Weiss, Serota, Helfman, Pastoriza, Cole & Boniske.   The firm that the commission chooses to carry out our legal necessities and legal advice in our village will be covering three areas: General Government, labor,   land use and zoning.

On Thursday January 3, 2013 our commission took on the task to hear oral presentations from all four firms. In retrospect this was a wise choice rather than waltzing through this decision like some of our private citizens were lobbying for. Mayor Connie Leon-Kreps was instrumental in rescinding from such an irresponsible approach.  These unique processes allowed our RFQs to be complete and give the commission an opportunity to make the best choice. Congratulations to our Mayor for not allowing her constituency to dictate what is best for our village.

Mr. Kevin Vericker wrote in his blog NBVreality, “First up were Bryant Miller and Olive, who focus exclusively on labor. They employ Jim Crosland who had been our labor attorney in the past. David Miller, the partner, presented and laid out their strategy and billing on a retainer to the city”.  This legal firm is capable of handling the responsibility but because it is not all inclusive, most likely, is out of the mix.  Legal matters can be complicated and lawyers can make things confusing. It is preferable to have one firm, one umbrella to cover our village’s legal needs.

Gray Robinson most likely is also out of the loop because they have no North Bay Village history experience and this can be a contributing factor in our legal needs. Continuity and customer knowledge can be causative factors for a successful legal relationship.  Remember you don’t have to agree with me, I am just giving you my humble opinion. Keep in mind that I consistently “PUT NORTH BAY VILLAGE FIRST”.

That leaves us with two law firms Rosen & Switkes, P.L and Weiss, Serota, Helfman, Pastoriza, Cole & Boniske. In the process of elimination we will most likely be well represented legally with either of these firms. However there is a major point to consider, Rosen & Switkes, P.L is a one man show. In all fairness it is admirable that a law firm has a superman that can do it all; something to consider when your firm is shallow and wide.

That leaves us with one intelligent and wise choice: Weiss, Serota, Helfman, Pastoriza, Cole & Boniske with deep and wide legal representation with North Bay village experience and continuity. The only question left is affordability; can we negotiate?  Nina Boniske Has been present in every commission meeting, she is smart, cordial, patient and cares about North Bay Village. Weiss, Serota, Helfman, Pastoriza, Cole & Boniske please reconsider your rates in this volatile economic environment. If Rosen & Switkes, P.L is chosen, I would not be terribly upset. However my first choice is Weiss, Serota, Helfman, Pastoriza, Cole & Boniske if at a better price!
