The old city hall is nothing but a memory.

The elections will be over before you know it. The new commission will be sworn in and things will settle to normalcy.  We have a lot work ahead of us.  Finally! The old city hall is nothing but a memory. The residents of North Bay Village will have a unique opportunity to plan for our own future.   Please share your ideas as to which structure should hold the new city hall. I for one will like to see a multipurpose building. One that houses a police station, city hall, youth center, fire station and a senior center. My wish list includes a lookout tower for our law enforcement to keep our city safe.   This is a tall order but why not? What is your opinion?

I cannot wait to see the day our city hall and police department are removed from the Lexi. It is a store front with absolutely no character. I will like to know whose great idea that was, spending $14,000.00 each month, I think?  While we are on the subject of the police department, we need to tame the police budget beast. Please attend the commission meetings; we cannot afford to continue ignoring what our city needs. We deserve a safe, clean and thriving North Bay Village that we can afford.  Looking forward to seeing our neighbors take interest in our future!

                                            PUTTING NORTH BAY VILLAGE FIRST

  1. 14k does sound like a lot for the storefront in the Lexi... We should confirm those numbers before stating it as a fact...

But frankly, having visited both city halls, I still think it is better than the previous location inside Causeway Tower.

I think it would be great to use the location on Harbor Island, that the city owns anyway, but I would NOT be for a million dollar renovation of the spot.

The city should take on a serious review of alternatives for City Hall, and develop a long-term plan. I also think that part of any City Hall should be a large indoor public space, open for business and residents to reserve. It would be great to start a tech community in North Bay Village, and a pre-requisite would be to have a mini chamber of commerce...

  2. Thank you for your interest in North Bay Village and for your opinion.

    1) It was quoted with a question mark, because it was an estimate from a reliable source. These are the figures from the actual lease that was signed on 12/18/2009 for five years:

    1) $ 14,193 / monthly 12/31/2009
    2) $ 14,810 / monthly 12/31/2010
    3) $ 16,044 / monthly 12/31/2011
    4) $ 17,208 / monthly 12/31/2012
    5) $ 18,513 / monthly 12/31/2013

In addition the adjacent lot where the police cars are parked is at roughly $ 1, 700 per month and the lease is been terminated according to the financial director and the cars pulled out.

2)The location in question is in fact the old city hall site on Harbor Island by the Shell station that was recently demolished; and it would be a new building not a renovation.

3)It is a long term plan that has approved Bonds that are realized and to be realized.

4)The lease with the Lexi most likely it would need to be renewed since by 12/2014 I dont think we can design it, approve it and build it.

5)The new Business Advisory Board that was create, suppose to be our answer to a mini chamber of commerce.

6)Yes, this location at least is visible but at what cost.

7)Signing your ideas, comments, opinions and reflection with your name and address would be nice. I can tell by Sachmo alone.

Thank you and we welcome all ideas and participation from all the residents of North Bay Village.

    Regards,

    Mario Garcia
